Angel: I appreciate you guys looking out for Connor all summer. It's just—he's confused. He needs time. That's all.
Fred: Right. Time, and some corporal punishment with a large heavy mallet. Not that I'm bitter. (notices books she packed are back) Oh. Damn it, Dennis! She's not coming back! I'm sorry, Angel. I-I didn't— I meant the apartment. I— Angel: It's okay, Fred. Anyway, we've got tons of room back at the hotel. We can keep everything safe.
Fred: It's just—you count on stuff, you know? Things being where you left them. What happens if you get back and they're not there?
Angel: You go find 'em.

| Carrick agrees new Man Utd deal |
[May. 17th, 2008|04:21 pm] |

England midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United.
The 26-year-old emulates defenders Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown, who committed their long-term futures to the Premier League champions last month.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Michael has been outstanding since joining us and it is great he will be a part of this squad for years to come."
Carrick joined United in 2006 in a £18.6m deal from Tottenham.
The new contract ties Carrick, who has made 48 appearances for the club this season, to Old Trafford until at least June 2012.
Carrick was pleased to have completed the deal before Wednesday night's Champions League final against Chelsea.
"This is a fantastic club and it is a pleasure to be part of this great squad," the West Ham academy product told United's website. "I believe this team will be together for many years to come and to win back to back titles in my first two seasons at the club is a dream come true."
Ferdinand, 29, signed a five-year deal in April which effectively means he and Brown, 28, could end their careers with the title holders.

| Isn't this what they're supposed to do? |
[May. 17th, 2008|10:59 am] |
I've apparently given up my self-imposed ban on discussing politics on this LJ. This may not be a good thing.
From: http://news.bostonherald.com/news/national/west/view.bg?articleid=1094631&srvc=home&position=recent
Gay marriage opponents called the ruling an example of judicial overreaching in which the opinions of a few justices trumped the will of Californians.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what the judicial brance is supposed to do? Protect the rights of everyone, regardless of majority opinion on the matter? This concept of judicial overreaching seems like a new one to me. I don't think I'd ever heard of it before folks like Rick Santorum started making veiled threats about dealing with Judges who overstepped their bounds.
It's a pretty ridiculous concept. One might go so far as to call it profoundly un-American. I've definitely disagreed with court rulings before (Ah, remember the care-free days when Habeus Corpus was a right guaranteed to all?), but the solution is not to complain about "activist judges." The solution is to go through the proper checks and balances which usually involve re-writing constitutions. This is luckily a very difficult thing to do, and (usually) means that only the most important of changes get made. I like to think that the California state legislature isn't going to do something as dramatic as that.
And beyond the judges thing, I will honestly never understand why anyone in their right mind gives half a crap about who gets married. If you're old enough to decide whether you want to die for your country, then you're old enough to decide to marry anyone you want.
A question though for many of you: If you're for the right for gay marriage, are you also for adult polygamy? I stress the adult part because most of the major polygamist groups you hear about tend to have a problem with forcing underage girls into a marriage. But if it's three (or more) people of adult age and mindset, do you feel they should be allowed to get married?
The reason I ask is that I know a few people who consider themselves very liberal. They're for gay marriage, but they're against polygamy in all its aspects. The argument is that polygamy is inherently misogynistic, and therefore should not be legal.
And while I agree that polygamy has often been misogynistic, I think this is an argument that kind of falls apart on its face. Marriage in general has been extremely misogynistic for pretty much its entire existence, up until maybe the last fifty years. But assuming the participants are all consenting adults, does it matter to you? |

| aaaaaggghhhhhhhh! |
[May. 16th, 2008|09:28 pm] |
My 'puter screen has gone black! Nothing I've tried has awakened it. (I'm posting now on my eeeeeeee, it's so cute.) I can hear a whisper of a noise from the laptop, but it's not doing its little round light "snore" in sleep mode, which is where it lives when I'm not actually using it.
I was using it, cruising my flist, rereading the last of my WIP, when the cat climbed up, so I closed the lid and set it on its shelf. Then when the cat departed I picked it up and now it's in its current state. The power cord is in and the green light from that is on.
HALP! What could it be?
Ack! All my fic! (Yeah, yeah, don't say it...)
::cries, shakes things::
ETA: It's back up, but going slow. |

| Rock Band DLC, Week of 19 May 2008 |
[May. 16th, 2008|11:29 am] |
Oh, so exciting. If not surprising.
Next week, Rock Band will finally release in Europe. Or, well, in a few European countries, anyway. Whatever, yay Europe.
But they'll be getting some tracks we won't. Sad. :(
Except, now we can! Joy! :D
The next DLC offering is all the European stuff we'd otherwise be missing. And some of it? Suh-WEEET.
Like I said to Mike, Muse alone makes this week one of my personal favourites (LOVE "Hysteria", was one of my top choices for Muse in Rock Band). But I also really love "Hier Kommt Alex". A lot of these I haven't heard yet, but I'm open. Just in finding these videos, "Perfekte Welle" by Juli really caught my ear. Also hoping for some Revolverheld soon. I have both their albums, and I certify them awesome.
....hm. I think I like German rock. Anyway.
To my Oasis-loving playmates, I assume you guys would like us to pick up this one as well?
No pack this week (which does surprise me a little, but perhaps it would look too expensive to bundle them). Each track is $1.99/MS160.
......eeeee, Muse!! |

| Sights Unseed - Status Report |
[May. 16th, 2008|12:56 pm] |
I guess I should give a little update just to let you all know that I'm still working on Sights Unseed. I've fallen into the trap of making the scope of this fic way too big for me to handle, so I'm working on rewriting and making it all work.
I'm also working on two other stories at the same time. One of them is one I started over a year ago and mentioned once or twice. It's Xandercentric, and yet it's not. It's...I don't know. It's just weird, even for me.
The other one is the Buffy/Xander fic I mentioned before. It's also getting a bit too big for its own good, so I have to figure out where it's going.
I have the tendency to get really grand ideas for stories, and yet I find the best way to write them is in a very conservative kind of style that lets the bigness reveal itself on its own. See Noir Evil is written in what I hope was a very intimate style that pulls you into the reality and kind of traps you in it. I'm losing that a little in what I've got for Sights Unseed, and until I can get back on track it may be a while before I have an update.
In the meantime I'm sure you're all thrilled to watch me bitch about Ben Stein or be amazed by Wizards in the news. I'm trying to make myself post more often than I usually do, which is somewhere on the low side of hardly-ever. |
