Needless to say I am pleased. Although my head is still killing me with a tension induced headache. Watched the player awards last night which were somewhat raucous.  Also watched 99 again which brought the usual laughter. No matter how many times Ole put's the ball in the Germans net I laugh.

Also saw this today which cheered me up. Marathon bars making a possible comeback.

Nails are gone. Media bias is doing my head in. Yes Scholes should have walked but Rooney's was a stonewall penalty. Still way too close for comfort. Strange they're not mention how Cheatski managed to walk out 3 mins late. Hopefully the half times will be synched up. Still some turns yet . Expect Chelsea to score. Wigan are up for it due to being wound up all week by Chelsea players, the media and everyone else.

Football - Sporting Lisbon game [Sep. 20th, 2007|03:43 pm]
[Tags|]

Watched the Sporting game last night. Pleased with the win but still concerned over the performances of Gigss, Scholes and Carrick the three players most under pressure by the new buys. They seem uninterested somehow.  Rooney & Saha looked rusty. Good to see that Van de Saars good form has continued I had grave concerns over him last season.

Game was pretty boring to watch almost as bad as watching Chelsea or Liverpool. Speaking of which Mourinho's exit. Not too sure how I feel whilst I think it will kibosh any challenge from them this year it may rescue them from their decline long term. Or maybe hasten it not sure. Plus do not like playing teams just after a management change witness West Ham last year. Would like to stick 3 past them this weekend but will settle for a win.

Plus how is Liverpool's start so great. Drawn their last two games and are 2 pts ahead with us with a hospital full of injuries.

A Legend retires [Aug. 28th, 2007|11:21 am]

[mood | sad]

I feel quite chocked up at the moment as a United legend Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is expected to announce his retirement from football today. Ole has been my favourite United player since he joined.

Obviously amongst my favourite memories of him are his scoring of the winner in 99. With it coming so close after Teddy's equalizer I cannot remember much about those few minutes.

I also remember him scything down Rob Lee when he was through on goal in a very cynical challenge to be applauded off the field by the United faithful.

I remember his goal against Arsenal when we counterattacked the length of the pitch in about 14 secs in the perfect example of that particular art.

I remember his wonderful partnership with Cantona when you started to realize that when he had the goal in his sights he was just clinical and deadly. I remember the slight embarrasement he felt when he scored.

Most of all I will remember him as a loyal and great servant of the club and I think one that will be remembered amongst its many legends.  To think we almost sold him to Spurs.

All the best Ole in the future. Hope it is with Manchester United in some capacity.

Hoping tomorrow will bring a good result at least balsa wood is on the bench. Hopefully some of our shots will actually go in the goal this time. Not too sure how I feel about the Berbatov rumours think he will repeat the Ruud problem although he would offer something different.

At the moment getting a bit irritating dominating games and being somehow second bottom, mainly due to some wasteful finishing , opposition confining all their players to the penalty area and injuries. Which were worse last season than Chelsea's and Arsenal's and are way worse this season.

Still should be a good game tomorrow, think 2-1 to us.

What does an opposition player have to do to get sent off against United. Going on current evidence it would appear that would have to kill a United player. Michael Ball yesterday committed at least 2 Red card and 5 Yellow card offences. Ireland committed at least 2 yellows . City should have ended with about 8 men . As their thuggish clomping manager Pearce had obviously given them instructions to injure united players. At least Ronaldo showed his class.

At least we won despite the award of a flagrant non-penalty. Hoping for a least a draw this afternoon so we can relax for the last couple of games of the season. And please can Chelsea stop bleating about their injuries. I know Cech and Terry are important but your manager deliberatly shrunk your squad at the start of the season so it is your own fault. Plus our injury crisis both last year and this year was much worse. We only had 11 fit players at one point.

Listened to Terry Christian winding up Chelsea and liverpool fans last night . Better than listening to the ABU tripe that is 5live. But Alan Hansen on MOTD cemented my opinion of him as one of the good guys. Congratulating Ryan Giggs on surpassing his 8 title tally. Kudos to him.

United vs AS Roma [Apr. 11th, 2007|12:30 pm]

[mood | jubilant]

Well I should stop listening to that doubting voice in my head. I had thought we might go out like we did against Porto. Be leading 1 nil until the 80th minute and then concede a jammy goal.

What I did not expect was last nights exhilarating display.Best performance since the 4 nil Giggs display against Porto or the Semi against Juventus in 99.

Now I feel guilty about maligning Fletcher especially. All the players had a great game especially Carrick and Smith who I was especially pleased for. Felt especially good after the awful spineless performance against Portsmouth which let Chelsea back into the hunt.

Problem is the possibility of a Liverpool-united final in Athens is now on. And like fans on both sides of the divide I could just not contemplate loosing that. I think it will reduce both sets to quivering wrecks before whoever won went delirious for six months.

Football Lille vs United [Feb. 21st, 2007|01:30 pm]
[Tags|]

Watched the game on ITV last night. Overall was impressed with the quality of the commentary which was surprising.

As to the match thought we did not deserve to win a draw would have been fairer. Cannot think of a single player who played well. Both Ronaldo and Rooney underperformed. Although Ronaldo clearly was being double timed and the pitch was helping and Neville was rubbish we continued to funnel the ball that way.

Increasingly wonder if Rooney is anything other than a good premiership player.

Lots of misplaced passes from all the team but especially Carrick which was dissapointing. How Scholes did not get booked again I will never know.

Initially thought Lille were hard done by with the disallowed goal but the more I watched it the more I think the ref got it right. As for our goal, completely legitimate. Seen so many of these in the premership just shows sloppy scouting by the french club. Giggs clearly asked the ref for permission and the ref clearly stepped away.

As for the stewards , police and lille supporters they were all an absolute disgrace and the club should face severe repercussions for that. As for the players and coaches. I think the coaches should be sacked. The players were clearly in two minds about coming off and the united players and lille players exchanged pleasantries at the end of the match. Therefore I don't think they should be kicked out. Makoun looked a good player for them.

Match crystalised some concerns I have been having over our recent form , we look like we are starting to wobble or that we believe we have won the league. Think they need a rollicking and getting back to basics for a final push otherwise we could end up with nothing. Signs were there against Spurs in the first half, against Reading and now Lille. Sloppy complacent passing and being wobbly in defence.

As fr Talksports coverage their ABUism knows no bounds. I know they love Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. But to say our goal was illegal as fat (I've won nothing) Micky quinn did is pathetic. Also to go on and on about Ronaldo being narked at being taken off and saying he is going to Spain is just part of their and the medias attempt to prevent United regaining the title.

You can almost smell the panic in the London press rooms over Chelsea's fate if Abramovitch goes. We would then go to a two/three horse race annually.

Update: Well given the reaction of Lille and their slimy buckpassing I now want Lille thrown out the competition and to have at least a two year European ban. The general shocking nature of French stadia and the police response should result in the suspension of all French clubs next season. Although given UEFA clear anti English bias and the fact that Platini is in charge I expect us to be fined . If that occurs they United should push for the G14 to break away.

FA Cup Draw/Genre TV & Fic Update [Jan. 9th, 2007|10:42 am]

[Current Location |Work]

Well no really stand out ties or anything that immediately screams upset . Pleased with the home draw against Portsmouth which will be a tricky tie but we should win by the odd goal. Bit of a feeling going round currently hoping that we will draw Premiership sides all the way to the final. Part of trying to replicate 99.

As for the other draws Chelsea got their traditional easy draw. Certainly the case in recent times.

Arsenal will not be too happy with drawing Bolton again although I fancy them as Bolton were pretty poor at the weekend against Liverpool.

Usual load of transfer nonsense going on.

Looking forward to the start of BSG season III tonight. Plus Jericho starts Friday and Heroes in a couple of weeks , this coupled with the return of Bones and the stargates means I have gone from having nothing to watch to loads.

Have managed to get first drafts done of my submissions to [info]slayerversathon currently with my beta and [info]facets_of_faith two years on challenge although the later needs more work and I am not entirely sure really qualfies. Have finished the edit on chapter 18 of Running on which should be up later today and still hope to post 19 on Thursday.

On a related note the White Knights Awards are currently voting. Please head over and give your support many great fics to be found there.

Christmas & New Years football [Jan. 3rd, 2007|02:58 pm]
[Tags|]
[Current Location |Work]

Thought I would comment on the festive seasons football all in one go. Obviously happy with the position we find ourselves in although I think if the footballing gods had been kind Chelsea would be further back seeing as they have been guff.

WHU vs United

Needless to say annoyed but not surprised by the result. Expected a hard game as a new manager often results in the side upping their performance levels. But we pretty much dominated the game and bar so woeful finishing should have been at least 2 up by half time. In the end some comical defending and our complacent attitude go us what we deserved which was nothing.

Aston Villa vs United

Good performance in the 2nd half. Villa are often obstinate at this time of year but we generally grind out a result . Normally it is 1 nil so this win was a bonus.

Utd vs Wigan.

Another good performance both Solksjaer and Ronaldo were exceptional and we should have scored more although Wigan gave a reasonable account of themselves especially in the first half.

Utd vs Reading

Although Reading are a good side we made hard work of this going 1 up and then conceding shortly after . Then going 3-1 up and fiddling around the last ten minutes to give them a sniff of a result. Once again Ronaldo and Solksjaer were the stars. Ole seems almost back to his old self and certainly capable of providing us with an additional striker . His 8 goals is 3 more than the 5 I had him marked down for and those were to be mainly in the Carling and FA cups.

Newcastle vs United.

Useless performance. The real Fletcher rather than pod Fletcher was back and just a useless. Saha was back to his balsa wood cannot score one on one usual self and Giggs was very poor Still despite that we should still have one as Newcastle were a total shambles in midfield and upfront and only maintained organisation at the back because we had obviously decided it was a european game and so decided to play at a snails pace. Once again for about the 5th match in a row Rooney went missing, how anyone can claim he is worldclass is beyond comprehension. He never delivers when we need him to . When we bought him I thought 16 mill was about right 27 was well over priced. He either needs a rest or a kick up the backside. His general play and effort cannot be faulted and make him a good player but even unlike Cantona we cannot rely on him to get us that one goal we sometimes need. Of his goals this season only 1 has been crucial which is a poor return.

Allowed them two hopeful punts on goal which should have been closed down and both went in, woeful finishing by everyone meant we failed to get all three points. The only silver lining was Chelsea playing even worse last night. The only way they score is via Drogba or Lampard playing pinball in the box.

Despite the lead though still not sure we will win it. If we win all our home and half of our away then Chelsea cannot catch us. I think it may go down to the wire with Chelsea having to beat Arsenal 4 nil whilst we lose 3 nil to let them win the title. If Chelsea drop any more points in the next two games then they will not catch us . Unfortunately I think the 10 day FA cup break may help them recover from their wobbles..

Champions League Draw [Dec. 15th, 2006|11:25 am]
[Tags|]
[Current Location |Work]

Pleased at drawing Lille should beat them as we are unlikely to underestimate them a second time and they were lucky to beat us when we were playing rubbish. Of the other draws do not think Real Madrid will be happy at drawing Bayern who are somewhat of a bogey team for them.

Liverpool fans I know are cursing drawing Barcelona but I think they may do okay as Barcelona are imho massively over rated.

The Porto vs Chelsea game will be like watching Bambi on ice with the amount of diving, cheating and playacting going on . Expect Chelsea to win this though.

Roma vs Lyon fancy Lyon here as Totti is again an over-rated player.

Inter vs Valencia to close to call.

Celtic vs AC think Celtic have a chance precisely because the home leg is first but if AC score it will be all over.

PSV vs Arsenal. Arsenal usual jammy draw usually get a dutch or French side at some point . Think they should win this fairly easily.

Be interesting to see what movements there are in January , expect a couple in at United hopefully Hargreaves plus likely to be another striker. Faces are likely to be a surprise as I wasn't expecting Vidic and Evra last year and thought them both a bit of a waste of money at the time. If we do buy I think it will be part of a strategy to out flank Chelsea.

Southend vs UTD [Nov. 8th, 2006|12:18 pm]
[Tags|]

The less said the better. Bit narked at going out but it was a good goal by Southend. Very slack again by a lot of players , would not be suprised to see a couple of them off loaded in January. The only player who appeared to be trying was Ronaldo.

As for the ref he should be relegated again. How he missed the obvious penalty I do not know , plus that defender had fouled Rooney enough all night to have got sent off.

Think Eastwood will be at Villa in January despite Southends hands off statement.

Football Utd v Celtic [Sep. 14th, 2006|09:59 am]

[mood | aggravated]

Good result although not pleased with the performance . Do not know where these classic/good game tags are coming this morning.

Notice as per usual that the commentary this morning is all about the penalty, do not know what game they were watching but it was a clear penalty . The goal keeper certainly makes contact with giggs , certainly not with the ball. Given that Giggs had to go off injured shortly thereafter is pretty conclusive in my view.

Also funny how they do not mention how Caldwell should have been sent off for his blatent block on Saha when he was last man and Saha was through on goal. Or the fact that Borduc should have been sent off for a second yellow card following his tirade against the linesmen. Utd players have been booked for much more innocuous queries already this season.

And then there is the other penalty which they conveniently forget , the pull down on Rooney in the area which was a clear penalty.

Overall though I thought we were pants and Celtic played fairly well, certainly in the first half. They ran out of puff around 65 mins and didn't really threaten at all in the 2nd half. I think the club should investigate what was wrong with Rio and Wes their performance was abject.

In the previews they said 5-6 of our players would have to have a poor game for Celtic to have any chance. Well they did and they did have a chance. But they still lost and should have lost by at least a couple more.

Annoyed about the Giggs injury and with Park also out the squad is looking a little threadbare.

Gaming & Football [Sep. 12th, 2006|10:06 am]

[mood | tired]

Good result although the performance was only average . Saha missed some real sitters and Richardson was very under par. Excellent results amongst potential rivals. Arsenal have just not got started and if we can beat them this weekend it will effectively already kill their title challenge.

The pundits and their near universal tipping of Liverpool have been shown to be clueless as they usually are. Liverpool look very disjointed and I think they may actually struggle this year.

Will not be convinced of our credentials until after the Arsenal game , I think if we win that , especially if we win it well then that will send a message which will bring the fear back something that seems to have been missing for three years.

On the Gaming side felt this weekend's session went okay , players managed to avoid the trap set for them although they almost took the bait. Was quite looking forward to ending the world. Some good ideas had but feel I need to ramp up the pace a notch for next session and maybe cut out some of the oc chatter that is occurring. Also had a rather nasty idea that I am currently toying with just need to do a little research.

Newsnight last night was surprisingly balanced. Although the panel was unbalanced as per usual once you take into account Paxman's agenda the discussion was not and actually the former director of the cia (James Woosley) and Prince Hassan of Jordan had some very good points the later especially when he talked about trying to establish a holy see for islam to help undermine the ideological basis of terrorism. The only fly in this and the news coverage was the defeatist nature and glee with which they related depressing poll results.

Stunned.

Two rumours doing the rounds this morning are that MSI are going to buy West Ham and secondly that United have first option on both players. The Times is reporting that we were offered them :-

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,277-2338025,00.html

Not to sure how I feel on this yet. So far we have 14 out and 2 in hardly strengthening the squad. Granted a lot of these are loans.

Thankfully the Solksjaer move did not occur.
